The Pyhäsalmi mine is located in Pyhäjärvi which is a small town in the central Finland between the areal centres and university towns Oulu and Jyväskylä.
The underground laboratory locates in the Pyhäsalmi mine which is the deepest metal mine in Europe. The mine is divided into new and old mines. The old mine extends down to about 1050 metres, and is available for scientific purposes. The new mine is directly below the old mine and extends down to 1440 metres. The first large-scale experiment (EMMA - a cosmic ray experiment) is under construction at the shallow depth in the old mine. More information here (link to http://cupp.oulu.fi)
