In 1905, Albert Einstein wrote his legendary articles which provided the basis of three fundamental fields in physics: the theory of relativity, quantum theory and the theory of Brownian motion. Coinciding with the 100th anniversary of this "Annus Mirabilis" (miraculous year), the event of the World Year of Physics in 2005 will provide the opportunity to raise the public awareness for physics and more generally for physical sciences.
The World Year of Physics 2005 is an international celebration. Several organisations and institutions will organise events in their countries, under the WYP2005 banner, to promote public interest in physics.
An International Committee will ensure the flow of ideas and information about these activities via the WYP2005.org web site.
